“Andrew, Ross, James and Jia, you guys will be in room 203!” – Bossman said. That moment of truth had unleashed the devil in Jamie. While Ross and I were busy exploring the apartment that we would be spending time together, he was one step ahead in securing his bed spot. Leaving the remains to the three of us, with Andrew and I getting the secondary room. The power of ‘bromance’ in us was intact so I willingly became the scapegoat as Ross couldn’t withstand people who snored.
During the first day of construction, the tool shed and container number 1 had been placed on site. Decathletes started to unload equipment and tools. I assisted in unloading materials from the container to the allocated safe space on site. Piers were arranged on the ground first, being the structural foundation of the house. Due to the small size of me, I was requested to crawl into the roasting oven of container 1 which was 32 degrees to assist in installing rollers for the pod.The experience was unforgettable to work in such extreme temperature and remain conscious of the specific task on hand.
On the second day, Sam and I decided to cook a Spaghetti Bolognese Storm. Hot dinner meals were prepared with fruit and snacks. To get the ingredients for cooking, we battled in the chaotic supermarket and managed to get all the grocery in an hour. We were rushing our way through isles, checking the price, and grabbing the cheapest options before going to the next item on our checklist. We managed to get meals sufficient for ourselves and for the boys working a double shift, Ross and James. While they were racing against the clock to get the shield and armour of The Desert Rose House installed, we were battling our way in the supermarket. This effort between team members was amazing and shows how undeniably strongly bonded we are.
